Billly Bob Thornton and Wes Bentley are to play father and son in the deep south-set drama, Monster's Ball. The film is about three generations of a Southern family - Hank (Thornton), his father Buck who is a dyed-in-the-wool racist, and his son Sonny (Bentley). Hank and Sonny work in the local prison, and their lives are thrown into confusion when Hank falls for the wife of one of the inmates on death row, who just happens to be black. Monster's Ball will be directed by Marc Forster, who previously won acclaim at Sundance for his digitally-shot psychological drama Everything Put Together. Production is scheduled to begin in May.
