It was the most anticipated trailer from here to Asgard. Now, finally, it’s here. The first teaser for Thor: Ragnarok has thundered in, and it finds the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ruder health than ever. Take a look below.
As we first meet Thor (Chris Hemsworth), he’s in a spot of bother. Tied up in chains and hanging in some sort of hellish death pit, we then see him throwing his trusty hammer Mjölnir at goth baddie Hela Cate Blanchett, the self-styled Goddess Of Death, who promptly catches it and crumbles to the ground.
Things aren’t looking good for Asgard, then. Hammerless, Thor is exiled to a strange new world and captured by Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson and the fabulously extravagant Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), where he’s put to work in a deadly gladitorial contest with an old work buddie: the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Also in the mix, continuing to cause all sorts of mischief, is Thor’s adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
Directed by Hunt For The Wilderpeople's Taika Waititi, Thor’s threequel looks set to be a mix of old-school space adventuring (note the ‘80s typeface) and typically witty Marvel humour. Ruffalo described it to us last year as a “universal road movie”, which sounds pretty good to us.
Thor: Ragnarok will be out in the UK on 27 October, before hitting the US on 3 November. A brand new poster also launched today – see it below.
