Thor: Ragnarok

In the news Thor: Ragnarok fans have been waiting for. Get printing those revolutionary pamphlets, because Thor 4 is happening – and Taika Waititi is coming back to write and direct. The Kiwi filmmaker took the MCU’s Norse God in a funnier, funkier direction with Ragnarok, bringing retina-sizzling Flash Gordon-inspired visuals and lashings of his trademark deadpan humour, and according to The Hollywood Reporter he’s been signed up to steer the four-quel.

It seems, then, that Thor 4 will play a part in Marvel’s still-unannounced Phase 4 – and could be one of the rare MCU strands to be granted a fourth instalment. Considering how audiences – and star Chris Hemsworth – took so positively to Waitiiti’s vision, it’s clear to see why the Thunder God’s adventures will continue beyond the initial trilogy. Presumably Hemsworth will be back in the lead role – though (SPOILER WARNING) Avengers: Endgame saw Thor hand over the keys to the kingdom to Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and head off to space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Will Thor and Valkyrie be back? Will the Guardians feature in Thor 4, or will Guardians 3 spin Thor off into his own adventure? If Marvel Studios do, as is rumoured but by no means confirmed, reveal the full Phase 4 slate at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, it will be interesting to see if Thor 4 is due for release after James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Most importantly, will Korg and Miek return? Stay tuned for more information as it comes.

In the meantime, Waititi has been working on Jojo Rabbit – a Nazi satire in which he plays the imaginary friend of a Hitler Youth boy, who takes the form of Hitler himself. That one’s hitting UK cinemas in January 2020, while US cinemagoers can catch it this October. Lucky gits.
