Having followed his handsome British adaptation of Far From The Madding Crowd with a return to his native Denmark for The Commune, director Thomas Vinterberg will next be heading to France. He's signed on to make the submarine thriller Kursk for Luc Besson's EuropCorp.
The film is based on Robert Moore's book A Time To Die: THe Kursk Disaster, which details the destruction of the Russian sub in August 2000 during a large-scale naval excercise. The explosion while the crew were preparing to fire a dummy warhead was later tracked to a faulty torpedo casing. 118 crew members died in the accident.
Robert Rodat Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot) wrote the screenplay, and the next job will be the casting. Shooting is due to take place in Europe in the autumn.
