It’s been quite a few years since Thomas Haden Church appeared in a horror movie, even including the terror that was misfiring Bradley Cooper/Sandra Bullock “comedy” All About Steve. But now it looks like he’s stepping back into the genre, entering talks to star in Nothing to Fear.

Anthony Leonardi will be slipping behind the camera for this one, working from Jonathan WC Mills’ script. The plot sees a family looking to find a better life only for their struggles to be dogged by a charismatic yet slightly loopy priest (Church). According to Deadline, the story is based on a town that some claim is one of the seven gateways to hell. Wonder if it’s twinned with Milton Keynes?

The movie’s being backed by Slasher Films, the genre production company set up by Michael Williams, Rob Eric and ex-Guns N’ Roses guitar star Slash. “Our mission at Slasher Films has been to create genre films that defy the genre stereotypes,” Slash said in a statement. “The team of Anthony and Thomas elevate an already frightening story with a unique vision and powerful artistry.”

Leonardi will start shooting in Louisiana next month.
