Just like actors, directors occasionally find themselves linked to a certain type of project. Michael Bay, for example, has the power these days to do whatever he wants, but despite constant remarks that he wants to slip a small, swift indie between his summer blockbusters, we’ve been hearing that for years with no sign. Thomas Carter might be a lesser-known example: he directed Save The Last Dance a few years ago, and despite having Eddie Murphy cop movie Metro and Sam Jackson basketball biopic **Coach Carter **on his resume, all he seems to be getting in motion right now are dance-themed films. The latest? Dream On** for Mandate Pictures{
The movie will dive into the underground hip hop scene seething in Atlanta as a 17-year-old gymnast realises that an injury will keep her from her hopes of Olympic glory.
That’s pretty much it for the storyline as The Hollywood Reporter has it, but we’re pretty sure Jason Ubaldi’s screenplay will also feature such staples as the Bad Boy Romance, the Bitchy Competitor and the Big Climatic Dance-Off. Plus, if it’s big enough, a soundtrack contribution from some big-name recording artist.
Carter will also produce the film, and the backers hope he’ll be directing before the year is out.
