In her recent career, Charlize Theron has tended to veer more towards drama than comedy, though she did provoke some dark laughs with Young Adult. Yet if Seth MacFarlane has his way, she’ll be bringing the full-on funny, as she’s in talks to star with him in A Million Ways To Die In The West.
MacFarlane, who is a cinematic hot property right now thanks to swear-faced soft toy tale Ted, is capitalising on that success by setting up the Blazing Saddles-style comedy.
He’s co-writing, directing, producing and starring properly in this one (as opposed to providing the voice and performance capture for Ted's** **furry focus) as a nervy farmer who refuses to show for a gunfight and sees his girlfriend walk.
Looking for someone to teach him how to shoot – and hopefully, be more of a man – he meets the wife (Theron, if she signs a deal) of a notorious outlaw who offers him gunslinger training. Thinking it could help him win back his love, he agrees, but ends up falling for the woman. And then the outlaw comes back…
Shooting (of several kinds) is set to kick off in May. Theron has most recently worked on Mad Max: Fury Road, while MacFarlane will host the Oscars on February 24.
