With his profile raised considerably thanks to his role as Four in Divergent, Theo James is naturally in demand. But he’s decided to return to an earlier acting gig – albeit with a boost in status – taking on the lead in the fifth Underworld film{ =nofollow}.

James played the vampire David in 2012’s Underworld: Awakening, and the plan now is to make that character the central figure in a story that isn’t a reboot of the series but an expansion of the same universe. That means that Kate Beckinsale could still be kicking around as Selene, but for this one James will apparently be starring opposite two new female characters.

No director has been hired yet, but Cory Goodman is at work on the script for the film, which should be rolling its cameras next spring for a likely 2016 release.

Aside from ongoing work on the Divergent franchise – Insurgent finished shooting recently for a March 20, 2015 release, and there are two other films, Allegiant Part 1 and **Part 2, **due after that – James will be seen in Martin Amis adaptation London Fields and meddling philanthropist drama Franny, starring Richard Gere.
