If you’re a gamer, chances are The Witcher couldn’t be more on your radar if it tried. The fantasy world created Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski marked the basis for a trilogy of acclaimed role-playing video games, the latter of which – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – is widely hailed as one of the very best games of all time. Naturally, when Netflix announced it was turning the book series into an epic fantasy show, fans the world over perked up. And now with shooting on the first season complete, the streaming service is starting to share some early imagery of Geralt Of Rivia and his pals.

The Witcher – Geralt

That’s none other than Henry Cavill – he of Man Of Steel__ and Mission: Impossible – Fallout fame – as the series’ lead, Geralt. He’s the titular Witcher, a freelance monster hunter who’s got supernatural abilities of his own.

The Witcher - Yennefer

And that’s Yennefer, as portrayed by Anya Cholatra. She’s a sorceress with her own magic powers.

The Witcher – Ciri

Finally, here’s Ciri – Geralt’s adopted daughter – played by Freya Allan. She has the ability to plan your day, offers hands-free messaging, and can search things online for you without pressing a button. Wait, are we thinking of the right Ciri?

The Witcher poster

That’s not all – we also have the series’ first poster, revealing the official logo and a nice dramatic shot of Geralt from behind. It looks like he’s been doing plenty of arm-reloading in the gym for this one.

In a post-Game Of Thrones landscape, Netflix clearly hopes to have a major fantasy smash on their hands – and if they can satisfy the existing hardcore fans, make the series accessible to newcomers, and keep the source material’s depth and complexities intact, they could be onto something. We’ll find out when the show drops on the service later this year
