The Walking Dead has become a Comic-Con stalwart, drawing huge crowds and graduating to Hall H panels before many of its small-screen fellows. With Season 10 on the way later this year, the show's bosses have announced that Thora Birch and Kevin Carroll are joining the cast.

With Angela Kang returning as show-runner, the two new characters are not found in Robert Kirkman's recently wrapped comicbook, so their storylines are tough to guess at this point. Carroll, who appeared on The Leftovers and Snowfall, will be a man named Virgil. Birch has scored the role of Gamma, one of the dangerous Whisperers described as "fiercely protective of Alpha", as played by Samantha Morton.

Additionally, the team announced that the new season, which will continue to explore the fallout of the Whisperers slaying several characters, arrives on screens in the States on 6 October (we can expect it back on UK screens the following day, as is usual). Danai Gurira confirmed that she'll be the latest to leave the show this season, and the trailer shows her finding some unexpected new romance.

In entirely unsurprising move, US network AMC took the opportunity to announce that spin-off series_Fear The Walking Dead_will be back next year for its sixth season Check out the mid-season trailer for the show's next batch of episodes.

The ever-growing zombie franchise will have three series on the air next year, with the as-yet untitled new spin-off, run by Matt Negrete, with Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts handling the first episode or two. It'll shoot in Virginia, will feature two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse as we know it, according to AMC. Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu and Hal Cumpston will star, with the second female lead still to be cast. Oh, and there is big news about the Andrew Lincoln movies...
