For years now, Johnny Flynn has been making a name for himself as an exciting rising British actor in films like Beast and Operation Mincemeat – but long before he hit the screen, he was primarily a folk singer. Now, he’s combining both of those talents in new movie The Score – an intimate Brit heist drama-slash-musical starring Will Poulter and Naomi Ackie (and Flynn himself), with a suite of folksy tunes written by… you guessed it. Take an exclusive first look at the trailer here.

Here's the official synopsis: "Two small time crooks, Mike (Flynn) and Troy (Poulter), are on a mission – the ‘score’ – that they both expect will transform their circumstances. At a roadside café, as they wait for a hand-over, Troy falls in love with the waitress, Gloria (Ackie), and begins to question his life choices, while the threat of real danger is driving to meet them."

Writer/director Malachi Smyth was inspired by an intriguing combo of French New Wave cinema and the indie likes of Paul Thomas Anderson. ‘It was the combination they had of being very free to experiment, but also drawing on the traditional Hollywood gangster and western films of the 30s and 40s that inspired me," he says. "That combination, with the added fit of European flair, resulted in some very distinctive films."

Flynn's soundtrack will be released by EMI in the Autumn, with more details coming soon, and The Score will be in select UK cinemas and on demand from 9 September.
