As Season 2 of The Mandalorian continues on Disney+, chatter is building about the future of the show, including the fact that Season 3 should be in production by the end of the year. And there's a new, rumoured piece of casting for the next run of episodes, as Deadline reports that Sophie Thatcher is up for an unspecified role.

In fact, so little is truly known about all this (as is typical for Disney and Lucasfilm when it comes to almost anything Star Wars related) that the site hasn't even learned if Thatcher could end up in The Mandalorian, a potential spin-off, or both.

No official plans have been announced, but you've got to figure that Disney would want to capitalise on the success of the show. With – spoiler alert – the appearance of Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett at the end of the first episode of this new season, speculation has been rife about the Fett spin-off. Plus, the presence of live-action versions of animated stalwarts such as Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan Kryze has sparked rumours of spin-off potential there too.

And that's just with The Mandalorian – there are several Star Wars shows in development, including one from Leslye Headland that promises to be a female-driven action series set in a different time period.

Thatcher is known for US TV series Chicago Med, and films such as Prospect and The Tomorrow Man.
