Given his long experience overseeing shows such as Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, it's not all that surprising that Dave Filoni, who runs The Mandalorian alongside Jon Favreau, would want to sprinkle in some nods to his other work and keep tying together that galaxy far, far away. According to Slash Film, he's reportedly doing it again, with Katee Sackhoff part of Season 2, playing Bo-Katan Kryze.
Sackhoff, a veteran of shows such as Battlestar Galactica and the DC TV Arrowverse The Flash, has voiced Kryze in both the animated shows. Originally kicking off her run during season 4 of Clone Wars, she's a Mandalorian warrior – a lieutenant in the radical splinter group Death Watch, second-in-command to the group’s leader, Pre Vizsla. When Darth Maul takes possession of the Darksaber, executed Vizla, and took the throne of Mandalore, Bo-Katan refused to accept the outsider as her new leader. She was instrumental in recruiting the Jedi and the Republic to lay siege to Mandalore and oust Maul. Later in Rebels, Sabine Wren chose to pass the infamous weapon to Bo-Katan, believing that she could unite the Mandalorian clans. Of course, since the season one finale of The Mandalorian revealed that Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon is currently in possession of the Darksaber, it appears we'll be getting some more backstory for the weapon...
Kryze is far from the only crossover between the series, with Rosario Dawson on to play Ahsoka Tano.
As has recently been reported, filming on season two of the show was completed before the Coronavirus shutdown and post-production has been carrying on remotely, with Disney promising that the new run of episodes will debut later this year.
