In the ongoing pandemic reshuffle, few films feel like they’ve bounced around more than The King’s ManMatthew Vaughn’s long-long-long-awaited World War I-set prequel to the Kingsman movies. Somewhere in the Multiverse exists a reality where the film came out in November 2019 – but in this universe, it should (fingers crossed, hopefully, finally) emerge in December 2021. The good news is, there’s a new Red Band trailer (read: a violent, sweaty one) which shows that the film still looks like a lot of fun, bringing the irreverent Kingsman chaos to an era of history that usually ends up pretty dour and drab. Take a look:

With heads rolling and a couple of spectacularly-timed F-bombs, this might be the most invigorating trailer for The King’s Man yet (and there have been many by now). Instead of the Harry-Eggsy dynamic of the mainline Kingsman flicks, this one centres on Ralph Fiennes’ Oxford and his son Conrad, played by Beach Rats star Harris Dickinson. They’re teamed up with Gemma Arterton’s foul-mouthed Polly and Djimon Hounsou’s Shola to take on Rhys Ifans’ Rasputin as the First World War wages.

As with Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, this one is directed by Matthew Vaughn, originally based on a Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic. The script for The King’s Man comes from Vaughn and Karl Gajdusek – and unless World War III (or, more likely, further Covid complications) disrupts things yet again, it’ll come to UK cinemas on 22 December.
