Among the movie treats still coming our way in the remainder of the year, The Irishman remains one of the most exciting. Not only does the film see filmmaker Martin Scorsese return to the world of mobsters and organised crime, but it reunites him with Goodfellas and Casino dream-team Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. Add Godfather icon Al Pacino into the mix too, and you've got something truly special to eagerly await. While it's long been known that the movie, funded by Netflix, would be coming to the streaming service towards the end of the year, an official date has now been confirmed.
As revealed on Twitter, The Irishman will be available to watch at your leisure on Netflix from 27 November – a release time that, of course, sets it in prime Oscar season. The streaming release will be preceded by a limited cinematic run starting on 1 November – and while it hasn't been confirmed how many picture houses the film will eventually screen in, Variety reports that the theatrical release might be smaller than initially expected, unlikely to hit America chains like AMC and Regal.
UK cinema release plans are still TBC – though it was previously confirmed that The Irishman will close out the BFI London Film Festival 2019 with its international premiere on Sunday 13 October, when it will also receive simultaneous preview screenings at UK cinemas nationwide. Further details on that front are yet to be announced. Still, if you're mainly planning on catching The Irishman from the comfort of your living room, keep Wednesday 27 November free.
