When we learned back in March that a new instalment of the Legendary Monsterverse – a sequel to 2021's Godzilla Vs. Kong, to be precise, we did wonder whether director Adam Wingard would return. Turns out he will – and the movie will mark a reunion with The Guest's Dan Stevens.
Quite whether either Kong or Godzilla are enough to deal with Empire's own Spirit Animal (at least, the tough nut version we met in The Guest) remains to be seen.
The plot for the new movie is a mystery at this point, and we'll have to wait and see how the giant lizard and massive ape end up clashing again – or whether they're still united to face another threat.
But then, the stories of these movies pales compared to the giant monster action. And Wingard certainly brought that to Godzilla Vs. Kong, which made $468 million worldwide despite debuting during a thorny patch of the pandemic and, in the US, arriving day-and-date on HBO Max as well as cinemas.
Wingard will have the cameras rolling and the beasts battling this summer on Australia’s Golden Coast. And talking of The Guest, the director told us exclusively that the new soundtrack sequel could potentially become something that arrives on screens.
