It feels like forever since the last time we heard anything about A Ghost Story/The Old Man & The Gun director David Lowery's new film The Green Knight. In fact, it was February last year, when the first trailer for the Dev Patel-starring medieval fantasy premiered. Cue a long COVID delay and now it's finally headed our way again later this year, with a new trailer to remind us all that it exists and we should be excited.
The Green Knight is a new adaptation of medieval folktale Sir Gawain And The Green Knight, a 14th Century poem that’s become a staple of literature studies courses. Tying into Arthurian legend (Patel’s Sir Gawain is King Arthur’s nephew), the film will send him on an epic quest to confront the Green Knight (the big tree bloke of the trailer) where he’ll meet all kinds of other adversaries and creatures along the way. Among them? A fox who would appear to be a distant ancestor of the "chaos reins" beast from Antichrist.
Also among the cast for this one are Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Alicia Vikander and Ralph Ineson. US audiences will see the film (fingers obviously crossed) in cinemas on 30 July, while it's now scheduled to hit the UK on 6 August.
