With his triumphant Oscar night performance of 'I'm Just Ken' still ringing in our collective lug-holes, it's a good time to be Ryan Thomas Gosling. And given the positive buzz from its recent initial screening at the SXSW, signs are good for his next cinematic outing, The Fall Guy, to continue the era of Funny Gosling that anyone who loved The Nice Guys has been anticipating for years. Check out the latest trailer:
Set to a version of Journey's 'Any Way You Want It,' it's a funny blast of OTT action and Gosling being uber-charming with Emily Blunt. As for the film itself, it's the latest offering from David Leitch, who has shown a knack for blending action with laughs of late, especially with Bullet Train.
Adapted by Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce from the 1980s Lee Majors series about a stuntman who moonlights as a bounty hunter to make ends meet, this is the story of Colt Severs (Gosling), a stunty who has recently returned from a hiatus following a near career-ending accident. He's working for old flame Jody Moreno (Blunt), who is under pressure directing a big sci-fi film.
The production has hit a problem — its swaggering, egotistical and neurotic leading man Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) has fallen in with a bad (read: criminal) crowd and is missing. So the movie's producer Gail (Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham) dispatches Colt to track him down. Because, as she explains, "You're a stuntman. No one's gonna notice if you're here or not… No offense". "Some taken," comes the reply.
Cue a riotous-looking caper as Colt investigates what happened to the star, a love letter to stunt performers and the hard work they put into movies, and a bit with a dog.
The Fall Guy, which also features Winston Duke, Teresa Palmer, and Stephanie Hsu, will be crashing into cinemas on 2 May.
