Back in September last year, Amazon and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke announced that a spin-off series is in the works, following a group of Supes-in-training at a Vought-sponsored college. As might have been predicted, the streaming service knows a good thing when it sees it and the show has been given an official greenlight.
Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Shane Paul McGhie, Aimee Carrero, Reina Hardesty, and Maddie Phillips are already aboard to lead the cast (the team got the actors in place in anticipation of a pickup), while the behind-the-scenes team has changed slightly. Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, who have worked on series such as Agent Carter, Reaper and Dollhouse are now overseeing the spin-off.
While it doesn't have a title yet, the show is described as an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys.
"Much like Mork & Mindy spun-off from Happy Days — which is an insane and true fact—our spinoff will exist in the Vought Cinematic Universe, yet have a tone and style all its own. It’s our take on a college show, with an ensemble of fascinating, complicated, and sometimes deadly Young Supes," says Kripke. "Michele and Tara are stone-cold geniuses, we’re thrilled to have them steer this ship, and grateful to Sony and Amazon for the opportunity. We love this show and can’t wait for you to see it. Also, Baywatch Nights spun-off from Baywatch, and it had vampires. Vampires!"
Season 3 of The Boys, meanwhile, has finished shooting and we're waiting to see when it'll return.
