It hasn’t just been movie releases affected by the Coronavirus pandemic – the film calendar also suffered a major blow in the cancellation of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. While the ultimate Con is set to return in 2021, DC Comics won’t be starved of geek celebrations for long. Warner Bros has just announced DC FanDome, a free online digital convention happening this August, covering all different strands of DC Comics media – from the DCEU movies, to the Greg Berlanti-verse TV series, to its roster of animated series, video games and more.
Taking place on Saturday August 22, the 24-hour event is set to feature “special programming, panels and content reveals” with filmmakers and cast members – and among the movies in the line-up are Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman, the long-awaited Wonder Woman 1984, James Gunn’s reboot-quel The Suicide Squad, Shazam! and its upcoming Dwayne Johnson-starring antihero spin-off Black Adam, and the recently-confirmed Synder Cut of Justice League. The event will be available to stream online at DCFanDome.com.
The Batman began shooting before the Covid-19 pandemic began, with the outbreak halting production – though reports are emerging that filming could re-start in July. Meanwhile, Zack Snyder’s Justice League was recently confirmed to be heading to Warner Bros streaming service HBO Max in 2021 after years of fan campaigning. A reported budget of $20-30 million will go towards finishing up Snyder’s original expanded vision for the project, prior to his decision to step away after a family tragedy. "You probably saw one-fourth of what I did," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie."
Stay tuned for any exciting footage, announcements and more when DC FanDome takes place in August.
