Still more notorious than famous at this point for the many scandals involving the Hollywood Foreign Press Association which hands them out, the Golden Globes didn't even happen in person this year. Still, they're pushing ahead the 2023 show and the nominations are out, with movies such as The Banshees Of Inisherin, Tár, Everything Everywhere All At Once and more all notching a healthy batch of nods.
Martin McDonagh's Banshees took the most nominations overall, landing in the Best Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy category as well as Directing, Screenplay, Acting (for Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, Kerry Condon) and Carter Burwell's score.
As for Everything Everywhere, that has six in play, including competing in Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Directing Screenplay and potential trophies for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
On the drama side, The Fabelmans is the frontrunner, with the likes of Top Gun: Maverick (though no nod for Tom Cruise, which might be connected to his protesting the globes by handing his prior awards back) and Elvis also up for plenty of awards.
A surprise was Brendan Fraser's name on the list for The Whale, primarily because he's already said he won't attend after accusing a former HFPA president of sexual assault a few years ago. And it's notable that almost none of the recipients hit social media to enthuse over their nominations, which doesn't bode well for celebrity attendance come the ceremony itself on 10 January.
