As a veteran of Downton Abbey, Jessica Brown Findlay is no stranger to a creaky old British mansion. But if Downton never went full Hill House, Findlay faces spookier goings on in The Banishing – an eerie, gothic haunted house tale from Brit director Christopher Smith, coming to digital platforms later this month courtesy of Vertigo Releasing and the horror hounds at Shudder. The film stars Findlay as Marianne, who along with her reverend husband Linus and their daughter Adelaide moves to a new house in rural England in the 1930s. But the clergyman that Linus is replacing disappeared in mysterious circumstances, and their new house seems to be harbouring some dark secrets. Watch an exclusive, creepy clip here:

Note to self: when moving into a new place, always make sure the previous owners didn’t mysteriously disappear first. Smith has form when it comes to spookiness on screen, having previously directed Tube-horror Creep, vicious team-building-exercise comedy-horror Severance, and time-twisting chiller Triangle. Starring alongside Findlay are the likes of Sean Harris, John Lynch, and Harry Price.
