As you'll see from the early seconds of this clip just tweeted by creator Eric Powell, the film version of comic book **The Goon is still no nearer full production. As you'll also see, that's very bad news indeed.

Taking the form of a public service announcement, the work-in-progress teaser provides us with a useful demonstration of how to dispatch a zombie (or "slackjaw in The Goon's terminology). Oddly, The Goon himself appears to be using a wrench, even though the product he's apparently advertising is a Smitty's Beat Stick: "Quality you can bludgeon with!"

A slapstick supernatural noir, The Goon (not to be confused with the Seann William Scott-starring hockey movie, the Diana Wynne-Jones novel Archer's Goon, or Spike Milligan's radio series) involves a mob enforcer, his sidekick, and a villain in the form of The Priest, who leads a legion of undead.

Clancy Brown voices the titular thug, and Paul Giamatti is short-arse Franky (short for Francesca). Blur Studios (also working on a new Heavy Metal) are behind the animation. And a certain David Fincher is producing. He says the tricky thing is to get studios to stump up any cash at all for "adult animation" (although he's keen to stress that The Goon is not Fritz the Cat).

Vintage cars, tommy guns, buxom barmaids, zombie alcoholics, quickfire comedy, lots of action... What the hell is Hollywood's problem? There's an earlier trailer here from Comic-Con a couple of years ago. Is there an online petition somewhere that we can sign to get this made? Maybe if we all send in a quid...
