With the attempt to splice Men In Black and the Jump Street movies abandoned, Sony is moving forward quickly with a more basic reboot of the MIB franchise. Chris Hemsworth is nearing a deal to star, and there's a welcome Thor: Ragnarok reunion in the works as Tessa Thompson is now in talks to join him.

If they both sign on, the pair would play the latest generation of agents protecting the Earth from nasty alien incursion and helping to police the extra-terrestrial population that lives on our planet in disguise. It'll be a new story in the same universe as the three movies that starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.

F. Gary Gray will direct this latest entry, which has a script by Matt Holloway and Art Macum. All being well, Sony wants this new film in cinemas for May next year. As for Thompson, she's been going from strength to strength, signing on to a variety of new movies. She'll next return for the second season of Westworld (on screens 23 April), and plays Bianca once again in Creed II, which is now shooting.
