After seeing her performances in films such as Creed and last year's Thor: Ragnarok, raise her profile yet further, Tessa Thompson is turning producer for a new based-on-truth action drama about infamous jewel thief Doris Payne.

Looking to channel some of the spirit of Catch Me If You Can, Thompson will play Payne, who spent 60 years ripping off posh jewellery shops with a variety of tricks. She'd show up posing as a rich woman and ask to see a variety of diamond rings. While distracting the clerk, she'd pocket a couple of items each visit. And she also used a number of different identities, swapping out Social Security numbers and birthdates.

She never quite completely evaded the law, however, and was arrested numerous times stretching back to the 1950s. In 2013 she was the subject of a documentary The Life And Crimes Of Doris Payne and was interviewed while in prison.

Thompson has been chasing this one for a while and will produce alongside Codeblack Films. She's back on small screens in Westworld, which kicks off again in April, and is once again due to play Bianca in the Creed sequel. Next, though, she'll be seen in Annihilation, due out in Stateside cinemas on 23 February, before hitting Netflix elsewhere.
