Casting on action thriller Dead Man Down has really begun to heat up, with Dominic Cooper in talks as of this week. But what the movie really needed was a villain, someone to play a violent crimelord. So who could bring the pain? Terrence Howard thinks he has what it takes…

Howard has signed on to play a feared crime boss who heads a dangerous organisation. There’s just one slight problem for him: he pissed off the wrong man when he murdered Colin Farrell’s family and now Farrell is taking down his operation one goon at a time. And if that wasn’t bad enough, a mysterious, scarred woman (Noomi Rapace) is also involved.

Original Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev is behind the camera for this one, set to start filming this month in Philadelphia, and working from a script by Fringe writer-producer JH Wyman. If Cooper signs on, he’ll be playing a family man who helps Farrell. But given his recent past with clashing schedules, we won’t count him as on board just yet.

Howard will next be seen over here in Red Tails (due June 6), On The Road (September 21) and Robert Redford’s The Company You Keep, which doesn’t yet have a release date.
