Few filmmakers today are making massive, original, ideas-driven blockbusters on the scale of Christopher Nolan. From Inception to Interstellar and Dunkirk, he’s proven time and time again that he can combine spectacle with big, bold ideas – which makes the impending arrival of Tenet all the more exciting. Yes, Nolan is back with a movie that remains tightly under wraps, aside from the brief description that the plot is “evolving from the world of international espionage”, whatever that means. We have a little bit more insight thanks to the first trailer – watch it right here.
For a two-minute trailer, there’s very little given away here – but we see John David Washington’s hero being welcomed into the so-called “afterlife”, hear talk of a mission to “prevent World War III”, and see all sort of stuff moving backwards. Yes, this is a Nolan movie, so there’ll be some chronoligical complications – including, apparently, our heroes experiencing time in a different way to everyone else. Prepare your minds for another bending.
Nolan, as ever, has pulled together a stellar cast for this one – beyond Washington, the film stars Robert Pattinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Debicki, Clémence Poésy, plus the return of former collaborators like Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh. Prepare to see the trailer on the big screen if you’re heading out to Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker in the coming days – and the film itself will arrive in UK cinemas from 17 July 2020.
