Kids taking on an otherworldly threat in bucolic surroundings? The comparisons to Netflix's big hit Stranger Things are inevitable for its new sci-fi film Rim Of The World, but hopefully it has enough of its own spirit. Check out the first trailer below.
Summer camp at Rim of the World has barely begun when four misfit teenagers — Alex (Jack Gore), ZhenZhen (Miya Cech), Dariush (Benjamin Flores, Jr.) and Gabriel (Alessio Scalzotto) — find they’ve got bigger problems to face than learning how to canoe and climb ropes when aliens suddenly invade the planet. Alone in a campground once teeming with people, the kids are unexpectedly entrusted with a key that carries the secret to stopping the invasion. Without any adults or electronics to help guide the way, it’s clear what they must do: band together, conquer their fears, and save the world.
McG is behind the camera here, continuing his relationship with the streaming service he forged with The Babysitter, and Zack Stentz's script looks to draw from all sorts of pop culture (Independence Day gets a full name check. but there are nods to Jurassic Park, Aliens and more), but it'll be the chemistry between the leads and the movie's ability to do something new with it all that will make or break this one. Rim Of The World heads to Netflix on 24 May.
