Why should the Justice League have all the fun? The Teen Titans are making the leap to animated film in a loose adaptation of the classic Marv Wolfman/George Perez comic book story, The Judas Contract.
In on-and-off again development as a film for the past ten years, the scenario deals with the Titans being betrayed by their teammate, Terra, to Deathstroke in an effort to destroy the team. Warner Bros. recently announced that Christina Ricci will be voicing the role of Terra. Actor Miguel Ferrer, who passed away on 19 January after a battle with cancer, completed recording the role of Deathstroke.
Additional cast members include Kari Wahlgren as Starfire, Sean Maher as Nightwing, Brandon Soo Hoo as Beast Boy and Stuart Allan as Robin.
Back in 2007, Wolfman was interviewed by Newsarama, and in comparing the comic and the film, noted, "The original comics were a year and a half long storyline ending in the five-part 'Judas Contract' story, and The Judas Contract movie is seventy-two minutes. So we had to make a lot of changes in terms of the secondary plot. The main thrust of the story is 100% identical. It's stronger in some places than we were able to do in 1985, because it's now 2007 so we were able to take certain characters and make them stronger than we had before."
One primary difference is the fact that Cyborg is nowhere to be seen, the character in recent years having been made a part of the Justice League. In his place will be the character of Blue Beetle. Sam Liu directs from a script by Ernie Altbacker.
Last year saw the release of the animated film Justice League Vs. Teen Titans, which likely represents the sort of approach being taken with the characters in The Judas Contract.
