It's clearly the day for dysfunctional, sweary superhero comic adaptations to shove trailers upon a waiting world. We've already had the Umbrella Academy's new footage, and now it's the turn of Amazon's adaptation of Garth Ennis' The Boys.

With Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who've already tackled one tricky comic conversion with Ennis' Preacher) as executive producers, this comes from writer/show runner Erik Kripke (creator of Supernatural) and 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg.

Adapted from Ennis and Darick Robertson's graphic novel, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame. A group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” set out to take down corrupt heroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes. While it was originally in development as a movie (Adam McKay circled for a time), the no-shackles streaming TV world feels like a more fitting home.

The Boys (The Seven)

Karl Urban, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso, Tomer Kapon, Anthony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jesse T. Usher, Chance Crawford, Simon Pegg and Jack Quaid feature, and the show will launch this summer.
