Taylor Schilling has become the latest cast member to join a Nicolas Sparks adaptation, signing up to star opposite Zac Efron in The Lucky One, the latest movie from the pen of doom the rom-dram master.

The story has Efron playing an Iraq War veteran who ascribes his luck in surviving successive tours of duty to a photo of a woman he's never met, which he carries around as a good-luck charm. On returning home, he goes in search of her.

Schilling isn't exactly well-known yet, but she's been starring in hospital drama Mercy and has landed the lead in the film version of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. She reportedly beat Abbie Cornish and Melrose Place's Katie Cassidy for the role, hopefully in a climactic egg-and-spoon race.

Scott Hicks (Shine, The Boys Are Back) is directing.
