After the failure of Abduction to kick off his shiny new, post-Twilight career as an action star, you might have thought that Taylor Lautner would take it as a sign and strike out in more indie directions, much like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. But no, Lautner instead seems committed to the thriller route and has signed on to star in Tracers.
The movie will see Lautner as Cam, a bike messenger in New York City who lands himself in debt to an organised crime ring. But then he meets – or rather, crashes into – a sexy stranger, and she introduces him to the world of free running, or parkour. And no, we can’t yet tell you how those two plots are going to be related. We’re already concerned that, despite the pitch apparently generating healthy buzz, it sounds like David Koepp’s upcoming messenger thriller Premium Rush with parkour effort District 13 bolted on.
Daniel Benmayor is directing and it might not surprise you to learn that this will be coming from Mary Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, two of the producers behind the Twilight series. ”We’ve had great successes making films for this audience and believe this project will continue our solid track record,” Bowen tells Deadline.
Talking of the sparkly vamp series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will arrive on November 16. Lautner is also scheduled to pop up in Adam Sandler’s Grown Ups sequel. NB: When we said "strike out in interesting directions," we did not mean that...
