When he’s not teaming up with Inception’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt for old-timey-style short films, Channing Tatum is grabbing hold of new movie projects, signing up to produce and star in The Contortionist’s Handbook.

The film will be based on Craig Clevenger’s 2002 novel, with Tatum playing a forger who is able to slip in and out of tricky situations and change identities like a chameleon because he never puts down roots or makes personal connections thanks to a strict code of conduct. Bet you can’t guess what happens to drive the drama? That’s right! He falls for a beautiful woman and it derails his plans, plunging him back into confronting his troubled past and dealing with his new love’s own dark secret.

Robin Shushan has written the script and Tatum is working with GreeneStreet Films and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, which are providing the funds to get it made.

"Craig Clevenger's crafting of the highly complex character of John Vincent Dolan entertained and shattered us when we read it," enthuses GreeneStreet's John Penotti to Deadline. "Robin's adaptation crisply captures the gripping journey that Channing will lead us through."

Channing fans (Fannings? No, that’s probably Dakota’s trademark fan club name) shouldn’t start queuing just yet, though. The project will need a director and won’t even shoot until late next year because the actor is already booked solid with **The Dilemma **for Ron Howard and then The Vow with Rachel McAdams. And not forgetting that he might be called back to duty for another tour with the G.I. Joe franchise…
