With the knowledge that the X-Men will be fully joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point in its next phase or so, the speculation has been rampant about who could take over the live-action Wolverine role from Hugh Jackman (assuming he's truly done after Logan and can't be tempted back). Throwing his hat into the ring – albeit in an unofficial capacity – is Taron Egerton.
Talking with the New York Times about his new Apple TV+ series Black Bird, Egerton hinted that he'd be interested. And he has even (not surprising considering his rising star status and success in other cine-areas) had a meeting with Kevin Feige and the Marvel team, though it's not confirmed what casting ideas might have been discussed.
"I don’t think it would be wrong to say that," he says. “I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.”
Egerton, of course, would be able to run the idea, should he so choose, by Jackman himself, since the pair worked together in Eddie The Eagle.
And despite the apprehension, it appears Egerton is eager. “Hopefully if it does come around," he adds, "they’ll give me a shot."
Teasing hint? Or crafty misdirection? You decide!
