UPDATE! It's less of a mystery now, as Deadline reports that the film will adapt 2014 documentary Next Goal Wins. It follows Dutch coach Thomas Rongen who attempts the nearly impossible task of turning the American Samoa soccer team from perennial losers into winners. Andy Serkis and his Imaginarium team picked up the rights to Mike Brett and Steve Jamison's documentary in 2015, and have since brought it to Waititi. The aim is to have the film shooting in the next few months, ahead of the Thor production.

While Marvel confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con this year that writer/directorTaika Waititiwould beback in the MCUfor_Thor: Love And Thunder_, it appears he's looking to squeeze in another film before he reunites with the gang.

As of right now, Waititi and Fox Searchlight, which will distribute the movie, are keeping all the details locked away in a vault. So we don't know what the story will involve, whether it'll find the director adapting another book and who might be on his casting wishlist.

It's the latest collaboration between Waititi and Searchlight, with "anti-hate satire" Jojo Rabbit on the way this year (in the States, at least – it'll land in the UK on 3 January 2020). You can find the trailer here.

Waititi has shoved his live-action version of Akira to a back-burner now he's going to be busy with both this film and the fourth solo Thor film starring Chris Hemsworth. Love And Thunder promises to further expand the story, featuring more from Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie (currently the king of Earth's New Asgard, settled in the wake of the original world's destruction) and the return of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, who will become The Mighty Thor. Love And Thunder, which Marvel is aiming to have shooting at the start of next year, should be out in November 2021.
