Given that Taika Waititi is returning for a second stab at directing a Thor film in the MCU with Thor: Love And Thunder, it's perhaps not surprising that his rocky, rebellious character Korg from Thor: Ragnarok might also crop up. And now the writer/director/Korg-ster has confirmed that he'll once again don the performance capture rig.
"I just finished a couple of drafts of that story. There’s more Thor! There’s twice the Thor in Thor 4," Waititi said on TV talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! while out promotion his latest, Jojo Rabbit. "Natalie Portman’s coming back, she’ll be playing a female version of Thor, it’s from a comic run. There’ll be two of them! My character is coming back, Korg." That got a cheer from the audience, which made Waititi happy. Korg, of course, has already been seen again, albeit only for a cameo in Avengers: Endgame.
Love And Thunder will indeed see Portman back as Jane Foster in the Marvel universe, and she's going to be inheriting the Thor mantle, playing a character referred to in the comic as The Mighty Thor. And, in that storyline, she's also dealing with a serious cancer diagnosis, though Waititi has told Variety that he doesn't yet know if that element will be part of his film. "We’re not sure if we’re going to do a complete lift of that whole storyline. These things change through the shoot and even when we’re editing sometimes," he said of the narrative written for the page by Jason Aaron. "Like, 'Let’s get rid of that storyline where she’s got breast cancer. We’ll change it to something else, or maybe she’s fine.'"
As mentioned, Waititi's next directorial outing is Jojo Rabbit, which UK audiences will have to wait until January 2020 to see. He's working on the adaptation of football documentary Next Goal Wins and will then segue from that to Love And Thunder. On the strictly acting side, he'll be seen in Free Guy (out 1 July) and then The Suicide Squad, due in August 2021.
