Has Taika Waititi discovered a time-travelling power that allows him to pack in more work than any other human being? It appears that he might have, as he's in talks to add yet another job to his busy schedule. According to Deadline, the writer/director/actor will be showing up in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
As of right now, there's no information on what role he's taking, or how much of a commitment it would be, but he'd be part of a cast that already includes the returning likes of Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman and Jai Courtney plus new faces Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Flula Borg, Steve Agee, and Nathan Fillion, the latter two just reported as joining the movie.
Gunn wrote the script and is looking to kick off shooting in September, which might work well for Waititi's crowded diary – he'll be out promoting his latest film, satirical drama Jojo Rabbit before he knuckles down to his next, an adaptation of football documentary Next Goal Wins. After that comes the not-so-small task of following Thor: Ragnarok with Thor: Love And Thunder. Waititi also directed an episode of Star Wars series The Mandalorian – which just got its first trailer here– as well as voicing droid IG-11, and is also an executive producer on the TV adaptation of What We Do In The Shadows. So, yes, clearly sleep is something other people enjoy – but not Taika Waititi.
The Suicide Squad, meanwhile, is aiming at a 6 August, 2021 release.
