Yesterday brought some brand new details of Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian being overseen by Jon Favreau. Thanks to The Star Wars Show, we now know even more, such as the fact that Taika Waititi and Bryce Dallas Howard are among the directors handling episodes. There's even a first look image of the main character, which you can see above.
Today also brought official confirmation that the series has already begun production, with animated Wars veteran Dave Filoni (who brought us Clone Wars and Rebels) making the jump to live-action by directing the first episode. In addition to Filioni, Waititi and Howard, Rick Famuyiwa and Jessica Jones/Mr. Robot director Deborah Chow will also be behind episodes.
The synopsis for the show runs thus: "After the stories of Jango and Boba Felt, another warrior emerged in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic...." The first season will comprise eight episodes, with Favreau on as writer and executive producer.
No firm date has been announced, but we can expect the show to screen on Disney's own streaming service starting next year. Check out the news report from The Star Wars Show below.
