If Creed has re-ignited an appetite for Sylvester Stallone’s most iconic characters, the actor-filmmaker seems to agree – he’s bringing back John Rambo for another instalment. And by the looks of things, this time the tortured Vietnam vet is now more of a lone cowboy. Sly shared some photos on his Instagram to confirm that Rambo 5’s shoot is just beginning, showing off a brand new look for the gun-toting ex-soldier in the process.

As well as donning a stetson hat, Stallone’s sporting some heavy-duty leather gloves and a plaid shirt – a total change from his Green Beret days. And confirming that that’s not just the actor on his day-off, he posted another shot from the shoot on horseback with the caption “comes a horseman wild and free” – a lyric from Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘Don Quixote’.

The film comes from Get The Gringo director Adrian Grunberg, with Stallone and Matthew Cirulnick credited as screenwriters. Little about the plot is known, but it’s thought that Rambo will be facing off against a Mexican cartel – which perhaps explains that wild west get-up. It’s the first Rambo film since 2008’s simply-titled Rambo, directed by Stallone himself, which saw the action hero venture to Burma on a humanitarian mission which descends into a bloodbath. Rambo 5 is slated for a late 2019 release.
