Sylvester McCoy’s name has been linked with the ever-developing saga of The Hobbit for a while now, usually associated with rumours about the casting of Bilbo Baggins. But according to the actor himself, he’s close to being added to the film’s ensemble, just not as Bilbo.
So who might he be playing? The article in the Dunoon Observer doesn’t actually specify, but The OneRing has decided to go ahead and speculate that he may be in line to play Radagast the Brown, one of Gandalf’s fellow wizards.
Their thinking comes from the fact that Radagast apparently has a bigger role in the film’s story than originally thought. For now, of course, it’s all so much rumour. While it’s looking increasingly like we’ll see the former Seventh Doctor on screen in some capacity, there’s no solid word as to who (no pun intended, there) he'll play.
And there’s no “when”, either, since The Hobbit is still very much up in the air. Peter Jackson went on the record last week to say that Warners is making progress untangling the MGM situation, but hasn’t actually announced whether he’ll definitely director or a date they’ll start shooting no matter who his holding the megaphone.
