Heist gone wrong, with raw fish

Sushi Girl Trailer Carefully Prepared

The aftermath of a jewel heist. Thieves meeting in a warehouse. Sushi Girl's premise may seem somewhat familiar from a certain Tarantino film about to celebrate its twentieth anniversary (and the Ringo Lam inspiration that came before it), but neither Reservoir Dogs nor City on Fire had the central hook of eating raw fish from the body of a naked woman. And they didn't have Luke Skywalker and Candyman in the cast.

The trailer for **Sushi Girl snuck online a week or so ago, but we almost missed it in all the Comic-Con excitement. Which is odd, since its roster of Mark Hamill, Tony Todd, Michael Biehn, Jeff Fahey, Danny Trejo and Sonny Chibah is ridiculously Con-friendly. The set-up is that a gang of crooks, six years after a robbery, meet to celebrate their success but gradually spiral into violence and animosity over the actual whereabouts of their missing stash.

The clip makes much of a van crash that we suspect represents just a fraction of the film's running time, but that cast looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and we're always happy to hear Roxy Music's In Every Dream House a Heartache.

Empire had cause to speak to Tony Todd recently, and he was keen to recommend Sushi Girl as a "fantastic script" and "the best work of my life". It's directed by first-timer Kern Saxton, and doesn't have a release date so far, but Todd tells us it'll be out in Spring 2012.
