Graphic novel adaptation The Boys has been successful enough for Amazon that the company announced a third season at this year's Comic-Con@Home panel. Now we know one of the new cast members who will appear – and it's someone that show-runner Eric Kripke has a little experience with: Supernatural's Jensen Ackles.
The man who is soon to be formerly (but probably forever) known as Dean Winchester will be playing Solider Boy, who in the Boys mythology was the first supe, battling nazis in World War II in a very Captain America way. Though this being the subversive superhero show, we'd expect there to be more to the story than that.
"When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true," says Kripke. "Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humour, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys."
Ackles also announced the gig on his own Instagram feed, and you can find that video below.
Depending on whether this news is discussed during the Empire Podcast this week, expect the nipple joke quotient to skyrocket. The Boys returns for Season 2 on 4 September.
