Yes folks, the Superman Returns sequel is still set to happen. No, really, they're getting new writers and everything. The most discussed and buffeted sequel in memory has had a potential kick up the red lycra-clad butt as Warner Bros have announced that they're seeking new scriptwriters after Superman Returns' pair Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris declined to put pen to paper again.
While no reason is given for Dougherty and Harris' departure, it makes sense for them not to come back. Some of us very much enjoyed Superman's return, but the majority of viewers seemed to find it a little plodding. So fresh new writers with a fresh new – and hopefully actionrific – take on the series could make this more appealing to a broader audience. We trust in Singer not to dumb it down to Fantastic Four levels just for bums on seats.
And, of course, if this movie happens it gives poor old Brandon Routh another shot at stardom. The kid's got supernatural detective movie Dead of Night as the only lead on his plate, but the guy was great as Supes and we really don't want to one day wander through downtown LA and see him holding a sign saying 'Will lift cars for food'.
