After what has felt like an endless pandemic, cinemas (that's right, those brick-and-mortar, flesh-and-blood glorious things) are finally back in a matter of weeks – and the big smoke's favourite mini-festival Sundance London has confirmed it'll be returning in person this summer. And what better way to welcome such a comeback than with Edgar Wright's sprawling love letter to the band who have been with us for over five decades: The Sparks Brothers.
The documentary will be opening the festival on July 29, with Picturehouse Central hosting UK premieres and events until August 1. The line-up is yet to be unveiled, but expect some big hitters from this year's Sundance Film Festival – another virtual offering. Last year's programme included Lee Isaac Chung's wondrous family drama Minari, and 2018 brought Bo Burnham's knockout debut Eighth Grade to our shores.
Sundance London, like last autumn's BFI London Film Festival, also has plans to go nationwide for the first time this year, so keep an eye out on the schedule to see if the festival might be coming to a cinema near you this summer. Plus, Wright will be taking part in a post-screening Q&A which will be broadcast all over the country.
Tickets go on sale early June, with the full list of titles for the four-day event set to be unveiled between now and then. Updates will be shared on the festival's official website – but until then, save the date. We'll see you at the movies.
