Variety reports that Chris Blackwell, CEO of Island Pictures, has decided to quit in protest at parent company Polygram's decision to recut Robert Altman's 'uncommercial' treatment of The Gingerbread Man, based on a John Grisham novel. Short Cuts director Altman commented: "Chris Blackwell has always been a friend. I admire him and I am grateful for his integrity." Whether the final cut of the film will be to studio, director and audience's liking will known when the film is released in the US on October 3rd.
