Almost a year to the day that we learned Idris Elba would be producing and starring in what was then known as Ghetto Cowboy, the film itself – now called Concrete Cowboys – has started shooting. And Caleb McLaughlin, usually found as Lucas on Stranger Things, is amongst those joining him in the movie.

Inspired by Greg Neri's novel Ghetto Cowboy (hence the original title), the film will follow teenager Cole (McLaughlin) who is taken to live with his estranged father Harp (Elba) in North Philadelphia, where he discovers the city’s vibrant urban cowboy subculture, which flourishes despite the surrounding poverty, violence, and encroachment of gentrification. The community has existed in real life in the city for more than 100 years.

When They See Us' Jharrel Jerome, Lorraine Toussaint and Byron Bowers are also part of the cast, while Ricky Staub is directing, based on a screenplay he wrote with Dan Walser. The film doesn't yet have a set release date.
