If Ready Player One has got your nostalgia senses tingling again, you’ll be pleased to know that Stranger Things is about to crank up for a third season on Netflix. The hit retro-styled sci-fi series is about to begin production for the next run of episodes, and Executive Producer Shawn Levy spoke to The Hollywood Reporter{
Levy confirmed that Stranger Things 3 will be set in summer 1985, a year after the end of the last series, and that Mike and Eleven and Lucas and Max will still be coupled up. “They're like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life? It can never be simple and stable relationships and there's fun to that instability," he said on the red carpet. He also said that the creators “won’t be abandoning the Dad Steve magic” in the new episodes, referring to the almost parental role fan-favourite character Steve Harrington took on in Stranger Things 2.
With 1985 being the summer of Back to the Future, Levy also mentioned that Robert Zemeckis’ time-travel adventure classic will be referenced in the third series. The last season, set in 1984, featured Mike and pals dressing up as the Ghostbusters for Halloween. It sounds like it’s still early days on the season, so expect the wait for Stranger Things 3 to last until 2019.
