It’s early days on the third season of Stranger Things, but new details are continuing floating through that big orange glowing rift in the heart of Hawkins, Indiana. Netflix is expanding the cast of its hit retro sci-fi series for the next set of episode with two major new additions.

In keeping with the show’s reverence for all things ‘80s, The Princess Bride star Cary Elwes has joined Season 3 to play Mayor Kline. Also signed up is Jake Busey, playing a character simply known as ‘Bruce’. The actor is most well-known as Starship Troopers’ Ace, and also appeared in Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners. The news was confirmed by Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, on stage at the streaming service’s See What’s Next event in Rome, who described the arrivals as “guest performers”.

In early character descriptions that recently found their way online, Bruce is described as a corrupt and sexist news reporter, while Mayor Kline is sketched out as a suitably ‘80s slick and self-serving politician. The Upside Down inter-dimensional conspiracy may well go all the way to the top of Hawkins’ government.

Stranger Things 3 hasn’t started shooting yet, so don’t expect to see the next run of episodes sooner than 2019.
