Is this the sort of project, we wonder, that one could describe as 'otentially explosive'? Well, only in the same way that a pinless grenade is. Yes, Oliver Stone, who is to controversy what The Doctor is to time travel, has decided that his next film will be a biopic of George W Bush, simply titled Bush. And he's lined up so-hot-right-now Josh Brolin to star in it.
The script, by Wall Street's Stanley Weiser, aims to use "seminal events in Bush's life to explain how he came to power, using a structure comparable to The Queen'". Stone claims that he will not be making an anti-Bush polemic (well shucks), but presumably his film will touch on Bush Jr's cocaine use and alcohol abuse and string of failed businesses and discovery of God and the family business.
The script was written pre-strike, and the film could be ready to shoot as early as April and in cinemas by US election time in November, which would fill a gap nicely for Stone, since his Pinkville was put on indefinite hold following strike complications (he still hopes to make that down the line).
So what do we think? Is it another example of Hollywood leftism? Or are we going to see more of the patriotism that came through in Stone's World Trade Center? Brolin's a good choice for the part though, eh?
