Though he’s already considering taking the lead in the seemingly eons-old remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, it appears Ben Stiller has another possibility looking to grab his attention – he’s pondering starring in another long-planned film, Neighborhood Watch.
The LA Times reports that Stiller is seriously looking at the film which, like Mitty, has been in the works for ages and has consistently attracted comedy types and directors to it, with Will Ferrell, Wedding Crashers' David Dobkin and Get Smart's Peter Segal all attached at different times.
If he did sign on, Stiller would play an experienced city dweller that moves out to the suburbs and is roped into joining the local neighbourhood watch. Thinking it’ll be a boring chore of wandering the streets with a torch, he soon realises there’s far more to the local streets than meets the eye, including some extraterrestrial encounters.
Seth Rogen and regular co-writer Evan Goldberg are the latest scribes to have polished the script and there’s also a new director in negotiations, with Lonely Island/Saturday Night Live’s Akiva Schaffer looking to land the gig. Should he get it, Watch will represent his second film-directing gig after the much-maligned and massively underrated Hot Rod. Cool beans!
